We're back from a Bridal Fest we did this weekend and it is very fun but very tiring. This is an opportunity for clients, suppliers and competition to meet. And there's the occasional gossip, which can be fun as long as it isn't about us. Here's a little bit about what happened.
* Someone thought we were another company. My partner was like: no, we're not X, we're Y. But honestly, it was such a huge compliment. We used to joke that we wanted to be like them when we grew up. What else can we ask for?
* Someone said the decor was awesome... for Valentine's Day... with a lover! (Can you say too much information?)
* One of our peers said she wanted us to do her wedding when she renews vows. OK, so she might be lying but it was sweet.
* We saw someone commenting/criticizing our decor, in front of us. We think they were peers. Personally I find it distasteful. You don't have to like what your competition does, and that's fine. Go discuss it somewhere else. If I needed the help of another peer you have just closed the possibility of a business partnership.
* I met a girl who wants her wedding to be so unique that she is asking for triangle shape tables for her guests, and not even a single rose.
* Letting people take pictures of your booth is a delicate subject. After all it is my work. So we figured we would let people take pictures as long as the filled out our quote form. This couple comes along to take pictures, 6 inches away from the centerpiece. We asked them when is the wedding, if they have the flowers. Her answer: yeah, "we have everything. I am just getting ideas". Thanks for being so upfront about stealing my work!
There you go. As you can see it was very entertaining. Welcome to the world of brides and weddings!

Manic Monday
I usually like Mondays, I find it refreshing to have a new week to work on. Maybe it's the fact that I don't need to wake up at a certain hour and get to an office by x time. This past weekend was busy. We did a bridal fest and that's two 9-hour days standing and meeting prospects. We get to meet all type of brides: there's the hyper type, the one who knows exactly what she wants, the one who wants to tell you everything she has and wants (always fun), and then there's the one who is really dreaming but either has no fiancee or no clue whatsoever of what it is she wants.
Do you have a date set? No
Do you have the location? No
Have you thought about colors? What you like? What you don't? What you need? I really don't know...
We never know who will meet but it is definitely always an adventure. So back to the manic Monday... since I was out of the house for the past 3 days, it is falling apart. Apparently I had some guests that just cared about having a place to sleep and didn't care to pick up after them. Oh wait a minute, I did! It's my husband and daughter!
Here I am, another Monday, a new slate. Lots of quotes to make thanks to a very successful weekend. Lots of housework, thanks to a very successful weekend. And my sweetie left for a week long business trip, which has nothing to do with the very successful weekend. At least the house usually stays clean longer when JA is not home but now the hard part is actually tidying up.
More to come on the brides...

Mommy is a Wedding Planner
After my wedding, almost 4 years ago, my best friend and me (or is it I?) decided to start an event planning business. We took a course and before we knew it we were planning our first wedding. It was a unique experience. Fun and stressful at the same time.
Planning a wedding is a very serious job. A couple is trusting you with the most important day of their lives... at least until something marvelous happens like having children? They are expecting that we will take care of every detail and create a wonderful, almost perfect day. No stress, this is a walk in the park! While we're at it, can I juggle a cake and favors while balancing my butt on a unicycle? Actually, that's sort of what happens.
We've been very fortunate to have worked with very lovely couples. It is so amazing to see the the bride smile teary eyed when I hand her the bouquet, the look in the couples face when they see the reception hall for the first time. But nothing compares to the feeling we get when at the end of the night the couple hug us and thank us for a perfect evening. If only they knew our flowers arrived late, that we had to cover part of the cake with those mentioned flowers because part of it was melting, that we called the DJ about 10 times because they wouldn't respond to our calls, and that the catering people really hate us for being so demanding.
Cheers to the happy couples. May you have a happy life together. And thanks for allowing us to be part of such a special day. It means the world to us.
